Apply Mineral Makeup - Foundation Powders

Mineral Makeup Foundation Powder Application Techniques

**Please note that RAESIN IMAGES - Colour ID Minerals Makeup mineral foundations, concealers, and setting powders are the perfect amount of pigment for a flawless coverage.

Colour ID Minerals foundations are 4 in 1 complete coverage, but we do offer mineral concealers, mineral setting powders, as well as our award winning primer/setting Resurface X-treme powder for those whose skin needs a little extra help or for those that use our liquid and cream foundations needing a finishing powder.

Apply Mineral Makeup Foundation Powders By Colour ID Minerals

Carefully remove container lid, then sifter.  Replace lid on container, shake container upside down lightly tapping to loosen product.  Upright container and again carefully remove lid.  If you replace the sifter, please be careful so as not to force powder out the edges of the sifter.  Most women find they are not able to replace the sifter on the container due to the high amount of product inside the container once they’ve loosened it.  It is nice to own a vanity jar to tap out a small amount of powder/product to use with the application method you choose.  Sifter jars are sold on our site for your needs, as well as our mineral makeup vanity jars.  Perfect for putting your mineral makeup foundation powders in.  No mess, perfect for mixing.

Take your time when working with minerals.  You will soon find an application method that works great for you.  You’ll appreciate the evenness of the color, and concentration that the powder allows for light or heavy coverage.

Apply Mineral Makeup Foundation Dry Method #1

1.     (Sifter insert in container)  With lid on, softly tap or shake product upside down into lid, if you don’t have one of my sweet, vanity foundation mixing jars, this is a fast, easy method to use.

2.     Right container.  This allows just the right amount of powder to enter the container between the sifter and lid.  Some women like to tap the powder into the lid; some prefer to leave it in sifter area.

3.     Using flat part your foundation brush or chiseled powder brush, gently tap applicator into powder.  (Tap off excess, or you will be wasting product and possibly end up with poor application.)

4.     Lightly tap powder onto areas of face where you need heavier coverage first.  Tap powder on the remainder of your skin where needed.  (I don’t suggest covering your entire face with foundation; most women don’t need it, though most prefer a full face of foundation, to spot coverage.  Use your best judgment.  Foundation should MATCH your skin exactly, if it does not, then it is the wrong color tone, and you will need to find the proper shade.

Gently Tapping is the secret to any of the dry methods of application

5.     Once you have lightly tapped powder on desired areas, use a large powder brush blending all powder by swishing and swirling brush over your skin.  I like to use light, short, quick whisking motions.  Especially take notice of areas around your hairline, chin, and edge of face.  With Colour ID Minerals powders your foundation should match your skin and you should not have any telltale lines as with other brands of foundations.

RAESIN IMAGES Colour Identification True Tone System Foundation Mineral Makeup Brand products are all highly pigmented.  The powder is very condensed a little goes a long way when applied properly using the above and below methods.

PREFERRED MINERAL MAKEUP APPLICATION Method Dry #2

1.  Using the same method as directed above, substitute, flocked sponge, sponge wedge, powder puff.  Some women like to use large kabuki and or fan brushes for application.

I like to remind women that our products are not like Id bare escentuals or bareminerals.  RAESIN IMAGES Cosmetics Colour ID Minerals Brand Makeup face powder foundations don’t need excessive buffing to apply.  Not only is all this buffing unnecessary it can be damaging to your skin if you are using harsh brushes, as each time a harsh bristle (and there can be hundreds of them) touches your delicate skin, it can cause small abrasions for bacteria to enter underlying skin layers causing sensitivity, itching, acne, and skin infection.  Please do not use harsh or synthetic brushes when applying your cosmetics except where indicated necessary as in taklon eyeliner brushes.

Apply Mineral Makeup Foundation Wet Method #1

1.       Lightly spritz face with purified water or hydrosols after you’ve tapped excess product from brush before you apply product to skin.

2.       If you find your product is drying out before you feel you are finished, then lightly spritz again.

3.       You can substitute a foundation brush, sponge, or powder brush for your wet application also.

Hydrosols are sold in my skin care section and are nice to carry with you for quick touch ups if needed, as well as their contributing to quenching and nourishing skin with antioxidants.

Apply Mineral Makeup Foundation Wet Method #2

1.       Try mixing a few drops of your favorite moisturizer in with your powder, this way you have a light lotion, perfect for on the go days when you feel all you need is a tinted moisturizer.

Apply Mineral Makeup Foundation Wet Method #3

1.       Try method #2, substituting water for your moisturizer.

Always clean your foundation application tools DAILY with a gentle (Ivory or Dove) liquid or cake soap and water.  Do not use antibacterial soap if you want your brushes to last, this dries out the natural oils in the natural hair brushes.

Apply Mineral Makeup Foundation Professional Tips:  Using Your Mineral Makeup Kabuki Brush

  • Dip your mineral makeup or other kabuki brush in powder, loose or pressed, of your choice, tap off excess.

  • Blend mineral foundation, or bronzing makeup powder over entire face and body (applicable for concealing spider veins, etc.) to create a smooth even flawless finish.

Explanation

1

Cleanse, Tone, MoisturizeSkin that is gently cleansed, and moisturizes helps makeup blend easier.  Moisturizing is one of the best preps you can give your skin, especially is you aren't going to wear a mineral foundation face powder.  If you're not wearing one of RAESIN IMAGES mineral makeup foundation formulas, then you will want to make sure you are using a sunscreen with at least an SPF rating of 15 or higher. (See new SPF Information) I do tell women with oily combination skin my secret to non greasy natural moisturizer.  What is it?  Why you're natural skin's oils of course!

2

Mineral Make Up Primers (powder, liquid, or cream)If you think of a primer for your skin as you would a primer for a car or the walls of a house before it's painted, then you understand why it's needed.  A primer fills in cracks, lines, wrinkles, and pores, in the skins upper layers. Primer's even out the skins surface texture, making it smooth, while at the same time, holding moisture in, plus it helps makeup last longer throughout the day and/or night.

3

Skin Type

First you need to know what condition your skin is really in.  Dry, normal, oily, combination? Most women don't know, because they've overused and abused products, so their skin is doing what it wouldn't normally be doing.  90% of women between the ages of 21-35 have normal or combination skin.  The rest of us are in one of the several hormonal skin stages.  Though some of us never get out of these hormone stages, so have changing skin conditions at any given hour of the day. (how to pick your skin type)
4Mineral Foundation ShadeIf you haven't a flaw to cover, and there are women that don't, then skip foundation, except in those areas where you need it.  (i.e. under eye, discolorations, etc)  For the rest of the population that feels they need some coverage, or like to start with a washed canvas and add color where they want it.  Then you will need to figure out what tone/shade of skin you have.  See Chart for how to find your skin tones   I find most women fall into a neutral category with neither a lot of pink or yellow undertones.  I have formulated Neutral, Aminah, and Linen color categories, which suit 90% of my clients skin tones. Of course RAESIN IMAGES, Inc. does sell mineral makeup samples are available in all shades and customs.
5Proper ApplicationFoundation application techniques are important..  Everyone uses a different method that works best for them.  It depends on the amount of coverage you are needing, as well as what you're comfortable with or have for makeup tools and accessories when applying.  I usually used a flocked sponge or makeup foundation brush for applying my mineral makeup face powder.  I have a great page on application tips for mineral makeup foundation.  Check it out and see what method you prefer.  Take your time, have the correct lighting, and don't rush.  It's always best to try a new method when you're getting ready for an interview or date.
6Concealers and/or CorrectorsConcealers should be 1/4 -1 shade lighter then foundation.  Don't go too light though you'll only look like a raccoon!  RI mineral concealers are formulated 1/4-1/2 shade lighter in each color tone, so all your mineral makeup face powder products can be purchased in the same color tone.  I add light reflecting powders to all my concealer formula's to help detract from the area.  When using concealers it's always best to apply only where you need them, as they are a thicker, heavier formula.  I usually apply concealers before I apply foundation, this way I can see whether my models and clients really need foundation or not.  Always tap on, so you're not dragging the delicate eye area skin. Taklon concealer brushes really do work best!
7Hard to Cover AreasUse the concealer corrector chart for the proper colors to correct hyper pigmentation, redness, scars, and other skin conditions you may have.  My concealer extremes are also formulated with light reflecting particles.  Use a foundation or concealer brush to cover areas properly.  Always start with a little, and tap on. Sometimes depending on the amount of coverage I need I will use a wet powder or cream to work on hyper pigmentation, under eye circles and acne scarring before I apply our mineral foundation face powder.
8Setting PowdersApply mineral face setting powder with a big puff, just like you would any loose face powder, and press lightly into skin.  Use just enough to cover areas where you may tend to be shinier throughout the day.  I sometimes only use my light reflecting blends of setting powder on clients instead of foundation, especially in the Summer months when it's humid.
9Finishing TouchesIf we're doing make up for a pageant, or photo shoot, then we add lighter powders, and darker contouring powders where the face would normally shade, or I want to recede a specific area.  Blush isn't a good contour, so pick 2 shades lighter in your foundation tones, or my luminosity powders and you'll have a great shade that will work for you and not look artificial, you can do the same with areas that may need lightening.  It's amazing what you can do to change your look with some proper contouring and highlighting.  Luminosity powders, setting corrector powders, and Lumiere Powders are also a great way to add dimension to your face, quickly and easily.
10The End - Flawless ComplexionBlend, blend, blend, blend.  I really want everyone to understand the importance of blending with a large fluffy powder brush.  A kabuki is good, I really prefer a long handled, long bristle, natural hair powder brush for this.  Just blend in a down and out motion.  Your skin should look completely natural and if it doesn't, then you have too much product on and will need to take a clean unused powder puff and tap allover your face, and then continue blending, you can repeat this step if you've botched the job also, as it or a tissue will blot off the excess powder.  I also use one of my natural skin care lotion mists or hydrosols of natural blends and/or spring water and lightly mist clients facial skin, this sets makeup so you're ready to start with your mineral makeup color cosmetic applications of products.
